Machine Man (serial)
Light. A strange kind of light. Diffuse. I couldn’t focus. I felt disorientated and stupid. I had forgotten where I was.
“Holding… that’s good. Keep that there.”
“A little interplay on the third core. Nothing serious.”
“Okay… let him have a look. But slowly.”
The light lifted. Or rather, the thing that had been draped over me was lifted, by a man in a striped shirt and bow tie. The thing was a lab coat. As it pulled back, the sleeve snagged and pulled me around in a half-circle until I was facing the steel gray box, the monitor. I tried to scream. Words streamed across the screen: NO BOX BOX I AM IN A BOX NN N L N OLALOLALOLALOLALOLALOLA—
The lab coat flopped over me again, blocking my sight. “Reverse that! Reverse all that!”
“Taking him down.”
“Shit! You see that output?”
“Yeah.”
I felt myself shrinking, ceasing to exist in pieces.
“Maybe she’s right. Maybe…” Before I could hear the rest of this, I was gone.

As for what "Charlie" (if that's what you can call him) looks like right now, am I alone in thinking that it looks like HAL 9000, with a cord connected to the monitor that is displaying his thoughts? I'm not entirely clear on the whole setup of "Charlie" in his current state, but I assume as soon as the lab assistants are done with the peek-a-boo shenanigans over the next few pages, "Charlie" (and subsequently, the reader) will gain a better understanding of what "he" looks like.
Anyways, love the way the third act is shaping up! (Or is it the epilogue? I really hope it isn't!)

For a second I thought, "Hey gang, let's pitch in to have Max write more! Another 3 bucks for 30 pp? If we keep paying, we can keep him writing." <Uh-oh, then Max will feel like "Machine Writer.">
Regardless, this highlights another _really_ stunning part of this experience: Not only do we not know how it will end, we don't know _when_ it will end. Until now..................

Charlie. Dude. You're freaking out. You're supposed to be the "Vulcan" one. I mean ok waking up to your state of existence being a computer, monitor, and webcam would freak anyone out. BUT you did make Lola kiss you. You should have expected anything, including this. Don't get all mad because you don't have the contours anymore.
Anyways: One page left? Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww... :(

Do they think they can just reprogram some things?
Is he remembering these experiences, I would guess that he is as he is the narrator. It's hard to have a narrator that didn't survive the story, well, I suppose American Beauty did that...
Maybe it's just one more page of the story, and then there will be an epilog, I like epilogs!

But seriously - ONE PAGE LEFT!? That is NOT a nice Christmas present!!!
I guess it had to end some time, but that's very little warning you've given us. What oh what will be on tomorrow's page? And then nothing. I will no longer have something to look forward to *every* -weekday- morning!

I was loving the last page . . . I also thought that we were going to get an amazing third act. Max had thrown us a twist.
Only to realize that the book's over!
I can't allow a feeling of disappointment YET because I haven't read the "last" page, but . . .
Have you absolutely made up your mind about this, Max?

Lola walks into a dark lab, flicks on the light and clicks the power button on the side of a video camera next to a monitor.
The monitor flashes "GOOD MORNING LOLA"
Lola says "good morning, are you ready for today's tests?"
monitor "YES"
Lola plugs a large powerful arm on a tripod into the side of the monitor. The Arm wigles its fingers one at a time.
Lola says, "very good, now rotate, I think we have the regulator problem fixed."
The hand rotates. The whole arm raises and flexes an enormous steel bicept, then makes a gun out of it's fingers and pretends to shoot.
The monitor reads BANG
Lola says "OK Carl, now let's try the legs."
