REVIEW: Arena

September 2003

A wicked slab of satire set in a near future where American conglomerates run the world and you take the surname of the company you work for. Thus we meet Hack Nike, a disgruntled marketing man who decides to make a stand by going to the police when his employers ask him to do a bit of below-the-line activity - specifically shooting teenagers to build up street cred for their new brand of $2,500 trainers. With Jennifer Government's help, an Amazonian agent with a barcode tattooed on her face, Hack joins the refuseniks in a bid to bring down the corporation, and change his surname. Not hugely subtle, then, but very funny - read it before the writs come flooding in from a certain sportswear manufacturer.
