Newsletter: Edition 1

March 2002

Hi there!

This is the first newsletter for Jennifer Government. This is probably more exciting for me than you, of course, but I didn't want the occasion to pass without comment. Thanks for being a part of it.

First up, after spending days slaving over a hot web site editor, www.maxbarry.com has a brand spanking new design! There are now a bunch of new sections on Jennifer Government, almost all of which, of course, have nothing in them. But that will come. In the next few months I'm hoping to add some potential book covers and give you the chance to vote on which you like.

The book rights have so far been picked up by publishers in the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and Japan. This is excellent news, since it means I'll be able to post up all those wacky foreign covers. It's also an improvement over Syrup (my first novel), which never made it into the UK and Japan.

In film news, Section Eight is currently on the prowl for a director. Although the company is part-owned by Steven Soderbergh (director of Traffic and Erin Brockervich), at this stage he looks unlikely to direct Jennifer Government. (Apparently winning an Academy Award fills your schedule right up.) Once a suitable candidate is found, the hunt will be on for a screenwriter.
